Eurotech moves toward RoHS compliance

Eurotech is currently reworking its product range in order to make them compliant with the 2002/95/EC European Directive before the July 1st 2006 deadline.

/Hardware PR News/ - ITALY - March 05, 2006 - Eurotech as a manufacturer and distributor of Electrical and Electronic Equipment started a procedure to make all of its products compliant with the European Union's Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) legislation. The RoHS Directive is aimed at reducing the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment such as Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg) Hexavalent, Chromium (Cr VI), Cadmium (Cd) and Poly brominated flame-retardants (PBB and PBDE).
From the 1st July 2006 all new electrical and electronic equipment sold within the European Union must comply with this directive.
All of Eurotech's new products have already been designed to meet the RoHS directive. Regarding existing products present within the catalogue, they will be replaced with an equivalent model that will be compliant with the directive. The new products will have a different model number with respect to the one that it replaces also they will be identified by a specific logo printed on the circuit board or on the label if it is a system.
The transformation will mean that many modules will be completely redesigned using a new selection of the components, new assembly procedures will be introduced - for example the soldering procedure will need to be modified using different alloys and higher temperatures. Even with the complexity and quantity of redevelopment involved Eurotech's primary aim is to maintain the current level of pricing while minimizing the impact on the end user. Moreover, in some cases products will be updated and equipped with improved functionalities.
The actual release date of the new RoHS compliant products will vary due to the varying complexity of the modifications required, Eurotech's goal however is to have all the RoHS compliant products available for purchase well before the July 1st deadline, allowing its customers to have products available to market when the RoHS directive will be enforced.
